According to new figures from Internet intelligence company NetValue, UK traffic to gambling web sites increased by 15% during June 2002, compared to the previous month.
When the type of visitors to the gambling web sites were observed it was found that parents were the most prolific group present. This in turn was made up by fathers - accounting for over a third - and mothers with 27% of the online gambling population.
Other results showed that 16.8% of visitors to online gambling sites were aged 17 or under. Similarly, the 17 to 25 age group accounted for 24% of all users.
A spokesperson for the company has stated that the observed increase could have been due to the popularity of sporting events such as the World Cup and Wimbledon.
